In Spring, nature abounds around Breathe Easy cottage retreat

Early Spring brings visits to the sugar bush and, later, masses of delicate ferns and wildflowers, fishing (even fishing derbies and a salmon run in Owen Sound), long walks, and recreation on nearby golf courses, rivers and lakes.

Or you can watch for the returning birds, from the huge swooping V-formations of Canada geese to delicate hummingbirds. The woods and fields are full of song as the buds burst into leaf and flower.

Take to the road and explore parks and conservation areas. Pack your hiking gear and enjoy the many trails in the region (the Tom Thomson Trail, the Bruce Trail, TransCanada Trail and many other local trails).

Touring waterfalls

Spring is a good time to combine leisurely country drives with hikes, picnics and one of the region's special features – our beautiful waterfalls.
In Durham the scenic McGowan Falls is popular with anglers and sometimes the locals can be seen cooling off, sitting under the falling spray. These falls are in the Durham Recreation Area which also offers trails, playgrounds, picnic facilities and two swimming areas.
At the Eugenia Falls Conservation Area you will find one of the highest falls in eastern Canada. You can stand at the top of Eugenia Falls for a breath-taking view.
Inglis Falls, near Owen Sound, is a beautiful layered falls, with viewing platforms at several levels, trails (some of them steep and challenging) and picnic facilities in a park at the top.
You can also visit the nearby Indian Falls and Jones Falls or have a playful picnic at Owen Sound's Harrison Park, complete with paddle boats, canoes, picnic facilities and a restaurant.
These are only a few of the waterfalls, parks and conservation areas near Breathe Easy Cottage. Grey and Bruce counties offer up a wealth of natural beauty, waiting to inspire and rejuvenate you.
